Salt River Valley Vision

2010
Cor-ten steel, cast silicon bronze, enamel paint, stainless steel, stained concrete
12’ x 10’ diameter

Location: Double Butte Cemetery –Memorial Gardens, Tempe, Arizona
Client: City of Tempe, Arizona

Designed for an historic Tempe cemetery, the sculpture recognizes the evolution of the Salt River Valley and the people who have bestowed their legacies on the community. The sculpture imparts a conceptual link between the built environment and the natural world. Abstracted rock formations transform into two halves of a Spanish mission style archway, representing local architectural heritage as well as the double buttes that overlook the city. Chime bells, sculpted as saguaro cactus blooms, visually connect to desert flora and to bells of Spanish mission walls.
